K-12 Professional Development Teacher Workshops

Providing teachers practical tools to boost moral reasoning skills
in the classroom.

The Cincinnati Ethics Center’s professional development workshops for K-12 teachers provide practical strategies for teaching students how to engage in moral reasoning and civil dialogue.

Why is This Work Needed?

Many people find it difficult to navigate ethical challenges and communicate with those who hold different views. Schools, therefore, play a crucial role in teaching young people how to engage in purposeful, constructive, and respectful dialogue. Our goal is to provide teachers with strategies to equip their students with the skills needed to navigate challenging topics, find common ground, and participate meaningfully as informed citizens.

Critical Thinking Through Moral Reasoning

Equip your students with the ability to identify ethical dilemmas, consider multiple perspectives, and form reasoned arguments. This workshop provides teachers with a practical framework to help students tackle challenging questions across various subjects.

Strategies for Fostering Civil Dialogue

Learn techniques to encourage thoughtful and productive dialogue in the classroom, even when students disagree. This workshop offers hands-on strategies that teachers can use to foster a respectful exchange of ideas.

Navigating Educational Dilemmas

Schools today are grappling with challenging questions around academic honesty, the use of AI, student cell phones, and bullying, among others. This workshop provides an in-depth exploration of an ethical issue of your choice, providing teachers with concrete methods to engage students in critical inquiry about a topic relevant to their school environment.

Gamified Learning

Gamified learning incorporates game elements into educational activities to boost student engagement and participation. In this workshop, we introduce various gamified approaches to critical inquiry, including “On the Other Hand,” a card game developed by the Cincinnati Ethics Center that encourages players to explore different sides of an issue.
